SunRidge Canyon Makes Improvements Over the Summer

May 14, 2012 admin No Comments » News

During the summer months, SunRidge Canyon will be undertaking construction projects that will result in dramatic improvements to the facility.

New Facility for Jim McLean Golf School

First, the club is erecting a building on the practice facility to house the new Jim McLean Golf School. This will give the instructors a place to call their own as well as provide them with additional resources to benefit their students. Plus, it significantly boosts the cool factor.

The new building, about 1,600 sq. ft., will feature indoor/outdoor hitting bays with state-of-the-art computer swing analysis equipment. It’ll be air conditioned allowing golfers to swing away in comfort when the heat is on, and the outdoor hitting areas will also be covered. Other elements of the building include office space, a golf-specific physical therapy room, a custom club-fitting suite, restroom, practice ball washing and storage facilities. Architecturally, the building will complement the Southwestern style of the main clubhouse.

Second, on the lower patio adjacent to the event pavilion, the plan is to remove the fireplace and adjoining wall where the grill is currently located. In its place will be an expanded seating area offering unobstructed views of the golf course and canyon, a fire pit and a circular counter top and outdoor bar that will serve guests as well as wedding functions.

Patio Renovation

To facilitate this ambitious project, the club will adjust its typical summer schedule. Beginning June 18, the entire facility will be closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thursday through Sunday, the course and clubhouse will be open as usual with the exception of the practice facility, which must remain closed until construction of the Jim McLean Golf School building is completed.

Right now, the plan is to re-open seven days a week beginning August 20. The re-opening of the practice facility may change a bit since that part of the project requires some heavy lifting; however, it is expected to re-open at the end of August.

The improvements are another example of the Misheff family’s commitment to raising the golf and lifestyle experience at SunRidge Canyon to new heights.

Erin Misheff Named to All Conference Golf Team

May 3, 2012 admin No Comments » News

SunRidge Canyon’s own Erin Misheff is at it again, racking up awards like it’s her job. And if it were, she’d deserve a raise.

It was recently announced that, for the 4th consecutive year, she made the All Conference Golf Team for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Throughout her college career, Misheff has been one of the top golfers in the nation. In her first year at Ashland University, she was named the GLIAC freshman of the year.

As a sophomore, she posted individual tournament wins at TPC Sawgrass, Northwood and Northern Kentucky. In 2010-11, she was the medalist at the GLIAC Championships and the NCAA DII Regional Championship. Misheff then went on to secure All-America honors by finishing sixth at the NCAA DII National Championships.

She carded a victory in the Classic Club Invitational in Palm Desert, California. And, perhaps the biggest win to date, she placed first in the Women’s Ohio State Amateur Championship contested at Quail Hollow Resort and Country Club.

Keep up the great play!

SUNRIDGE CANYON GOLF CLUB EARNS PLACE IN COVETED RANKING 2012 GOLFWEEK’S BEST COURSES: STATE BY STATE

March 14, 2012 admin No Comments » News

Each year Golfweek magazine’s 725 course raters scatter across all 50 states to sample America’s best golf courses. The results of the 2012 rankings were published in Golfweek’s March 9 issue, and SunRidge Canyon Golf Club made the cut as one of 25 public golf courses in Arizona.

As defined by Golfweek, course-ranking panelists apply the following criteria when considering each golf course:

Ease and intimacy of routing – The extent to which the sequence of holes follows natural contours and unfolds in an unforced manner.

Quality of feature shaping – The extent to which the land’s features have been enhanced though earthmoving and shaping to form a landscape that suits the game and has aesthetic/thematic coherence.

Natural setting and overall land plan – Quality and aesthetic relationship of golf course, clubhouse, cart paths and other facility features to surrounding structures and native scenery.

Interest of greens and surrounding contours – Shotmaking demands on and around the putting surfaces.

Variety and memorability of par 3s – Different clubs hit; different terrain; different looks.

Variety and memorability of par 4s – The extent to which the angles of play, varied terrain and left-to-right/right-to-left shots create interesting and varied playing options.

Variety and memorability of par 5s – The extent to which holes offer a variety of options from the tee and on the second shot as well as risk/reward possibilities.

Basic quality of conditioning – Variety of playing textures; extent of turf coverage; consistency and quality of bunker sand; delineation of tees/fairways/roughs/collars and chipping areas (beyond day-to-day changes because of weather, aerification, overseeding or repairs).

Landscape and tree management – The extent to which trees and any floral features complement or enhance rather than impose and intrude upon the ground features, and the playing options of the course.

“Walk in the park” test -The degree to which the course ultimately is worth spending a half-day on as a compelling outdoor experience.

A lot consider, for sure. Congratulations to the entire crew at SunRidge Canyon. This award certainly is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Well done!
